Love... in a Metro / Aankhein teri kitni haseen

They were soul-mates. Or at least that was the way I saw it.

They both took the metro from Vaishali, the one that left around 7:30 am; and often enough ended up in the same metro and compartment. For some obscure feminist reason, she chose not to travel in the ladies compartment; but I guess that was just as well, for I hoped it'll bring them closer.

As fate would have it, one day, they ended up sitting together. And when a guy started making passes at her, he was man enough to ask him to keep his hands off her. Now, I felt this should have been a reason good enough for them to get to know each other; but even in the middle of saying thanks she was interrupted by a sudden "Aankhein teri kitni haseen...". It was his cellphone and he had to take it. She just smiled and started looking the other way. (What a random song to have as a ringtone!)

And then it was back to routine... the same boarding from Vaishali and getting down at Barakhamba Road. Frankly, it was getting frustrating. Didn't they see it? They were meant to be together and they had all this time, which they were wasting doing nothing. The universe was *literally* conspiring to bring them together and these two stupid souls were not even aware that the other existed!

Thankfully, the incident was not entirely without a result, because whenever she heard the familiar ringtone, she would look that way and steal a look at him. He was kind of cute, she thought. And the fact that he never looked her way gave him a mysterious air. She was slowly getting smitten, without ever having spoken to him.

He, on the other hand, was clueless as ever. If only there was some way for him to notice her ...

And then, it happened! It was an unusually quiet day in the metro, when she heard the ringtone. As if on cue, her eyes followed the sound. But that face was nowhere to be seen. She frantically started scanning every face. At the exact moment of the phone going off, he too started looking for whoever had the same ringtone as his. And then, their eyes met. Straight away he knew it was he her eyes sought, and wondered how he could have missed those enormous, wondrous eyes all this time. Eyes that, despite thick-framed glasses, were the most gorgeous ones he had ever seen. Eyes that changed colors from searching to flustered to embarrassed, all in a moment's time.

He smiled, she blushed. And that was the day they found their connection.

*sigh* If only I didn't have to work in such mysterious ways!
